Domestic Air Conditioning

Domestic Air Conditioning.

If you are thinking of having Air Conditioning Installed in your property or if your just looking to find a way to cool your property down in the summer, here is some useful information to help you decide if air conditioning is the best way forward for yourself.

The basic Air Conditioning System.

A basic split type air conditioning system consists of one indoor unit and one outdoor unit. These units are connected together using copper pipe work and an electrical cable. This connection pipe work can be run between the indoor and outdoor unit through roof spaces or under the floor boards. It can also be run along external walls, either directly mounted to the wall, or on cable tray, or inside plastic trunking. When we install air conditioning in our customers homes we use a diamond core drill to drill a 80mm diameter hole through the exterior wall to be able to exit the pipework from the property in a tidy way. Once complete this hole is filled with foam filler and sealed on the outer wall with sealant to prevent water ingress into the property.  The indoor and the outdoor air conditioning units will both require a drain to be run from the units to a suitable drainage position at the property. Both of the units will create condensate water when in use. The indoor unit will produce water when running in cooling mode and the outdoor unit will produce water when in heating mode. Condensate pumps are available for both units to remove water if gravity drain cant be used. There are different types of indoor units that can be fitted. Wall mount units and Floor mount units are most common in domestic settings. A full range of indoor units can be seen at www.fujitsu-genral.com. The outdoor unit can be mounted on either rubberised feet or on wall brackets at a higher level. The units are controlled using either a infra red remote or a wired wall mounted controller.  If your are thinking of having more than one air conditioning unit multi split units may be a better chose. Using a multi split outdoor unit can allow the use of up to five indoor units off of one outdoor unit.

Benefits of Air Conditioning.

The main benefit from fitting air conditioning is the ability to be able to cool your property to a suitable temperature during the hot summer months. A less known fact about air conditioning is its ability to heat during the winter months. An air conditioning unit is a good cost effective way to heat your home. Most air conditioning units are able to provide up to 4Kw of heat energy for every 1Kw of electrical energy consumed by the unit. In certain situations using air conditioning to heat your home or one room can be more cost effective than using gas central heating through out the property.

As of 2022 air conditioning (air to air heat pumps) are now part of the UK Governments scheme for renewable energy saving products. As part of this scheme air conditioning can now be supplied and fitted to domestic properties with 0% Vat. This scheme is available until 2027 when rates are thought to change to 5% Vat.
